Some recipes don’t come from cookbooks. They come from memory. From the smell of fried onions in a warm kitchen. From a mother’s hands moving with the easy confidence of someone who has done this ten thousand times.

Thami Letto began exactly like that.

The People Behind the Jar

Co-Founder

Aamna

Mum. Cook. Co-founder. With over 40 years of experience and a Burmese-Indian heritage rich in flavour, Aamna has spent a lifetime making food that brings people together. She built Thami Letto alongside her son, bringing the recipes, the knowledge, and the heart.

Co-Founder

Husain

Son. Entrepreneur. Co-founder. Husain grew up eating his mother’s cooking and knew these flavours deserved a wider audience. Together with Aamna he built Burmawala Kitchen and Thami Letto from the ground up, handling everything from production to brand to getting jars into kitchens across the UK.

A Dish from Burma, a Kitchen in Hackney

Thami Letto is inspired by Htamin Let Thok, a beloved Burmese street food of rice and noodles mixed together with roasted peanuts, crispy fried onions, sesame seeds, gram flour, and warm spices. It is the kind of dish that Burmese families grow up eating: unpretentious, deeply flavourful, and impossibly satisfying.

Aamna has been making her version of this dish for as long as Husain can remember. Getting it right as a product meant months of testing together in their Hackney kitchen: adjusting ratios, perfecting the spice balance, getting the texture of the fried onions exactly right. A labour of love in the most literal sense. Mother and son, side by side, tasting batch after batch until there was nothing left to improve.

The result is Thami Letto. A jar of that same bold, nutty, umami-rich flavour, ready to transform your rice or noodles in seconds. Every jar is made in small batches in their Hackney kitchen. No preservatives, no shortcuts. Just real ingredients, prepared with care, sealed fresh.

Two Versions, One Soul

We make two versions of Thami Letto, because we believe everyone deserves a jar.

Original

The Classic (Fish)

Sardines, fish sauce, roasted peanuts, sesame seeds, crispy fried onions, gram flour, and Burmese spices. Deep, oceanic umami richness. The version closest to what you would find on the streets of Yangon. Halal friendly.

Plant Based

The Vegan

100% plant based. No fish, no animal products. We double down on roasted peanuts and sesame seeds for a creamy, nutty base that is every bit as bold. Suitable for vegans, vegetarians, and halal diets.

Built from Scratch

Burmawala Kitchen was born from a simple idea: to share the food Aamna had spent a lifetime cooking with people who had never tasted it. It started with a YouTube channel, filming her recipes in the family kitchen. The response from viewers discovering Burmese food for the first time made it clear this needed to go further.

Thami Letto is their first product. Built together from £200, made in small batches, shipped across the UK with the same care that goes into every recipe. A mother and son business, built with their own hands, and 40 years of cooking in every jar.

Thank you for being part of it.
